Introduction - Membership Eligibility

"Membership of the Royal Air Force Club is open to present and former serving officers in the Royal Air Force and Allied Air Forces."

Who can be a Member?

A) Anyone who holds or has held a commission in:

  • The Royal Air Force.
  • The Women’s Auxilliary Air Force and The Women’s Royal Auxilliary Air Force.
  • The Women’s Royal Air Force
  • The Princess Mary’s Royal Air Force Nursing Service.
  • The Royal Auxiliary Air Forces.
  • The Royal Air Force Reserve and Volunteer Reserve (including VR[T]) forces.
  • Commonwealth or foreign Air Forces.
  • Officers of the Royal Navy or Army serving on an exchange tour of duty with the Royal Air Force for the period of their tour of duty.
  • Present members of the UAS,who have completed their first academic year of study, and all past members of the UAS should be eligible for affiliate membership (*see below) in recognition of the UAS support of the Royal Air Force
  • B) A widow or widower of a Full Member may apply for full membership in his or her own right. Upon remarriage of such a Widow or Widower, his or her spouse shall be entitled to Associate Membership but shall not be entitled to take over the membership when the "widow or widower" dies.

    C) Family Membership: The Board of Trustees is empowered to elect as Family Members sons and daughters over 18 years of age, who should be proposed by a parent or legal guardian (who should be a Full Member of the Club of at least 2 years standing) and seconded by another Full Member of the Club of at least 2 years standing who is not a relative.

    The Board of Trustees is also empowered to elect as Family Members parents or legal guardians who should be proposed by the son or daughter (who should be a Full Member of the Club of at least 2 years standing) and seconded by another Full Member of at least 2 years standing of the Club who is not a relative.

    D) Affiliate Membership is open to those who have filled or are filling appropriate appointments with RAF connections. The Trustees will therefore be looking for individuals with sustained, significant and active involvement, either in current appointment/s or previously. In order to broaden this category of membership, the rule also allows the election of candidates who have been or are actively contributing to promoting the interests of the RAF; again continuing interest and personal involvement in some aspect of the RAF family including, for example, philanthropic activities, work for RAF related charities, sponsorship - this list is by no means exhaustive

    Can I visit the Club before I am a member?

    We have a “One day Membership” card for those Serving Officers in the Royal Air Force who have not yet joined and who would like to view our facilities and stay overnight. There is no charge for the card - you just have to pay for your accommodation etc.

    Half of one day's pay plus VAT based on the first level for each rank

    Former Serving/ Foreign Serving/ Affiliate Members
    £124.00 including VAT for 2010

    Entrance fee payable only by Former-Serving, Family or Affiliate Members. Entrance fees are determined by the Board of Trustees, and currently they are equal to the Former-Serving Subscription, which is £124.00 including VAT for 2010

    An entrance fee of £124.00 is payable by all candidates who are not currently serving apart from those who transfer directly to Former-Serving Membership upon retirement from the RAF.

    Similarly, Associate Members who wish to apply for Full Membership upon the death of a Full Member do not pay an entrance fee provided there is no break in Membership.

    Associate Membership

    Full Members may elect for their spouses to become Associate Members, who shall also be subject to all the Rules of the Club as if they were Full Members.

    If a Full Member ceases to be a Member the spouse shall cease to be an Associate Member. Such Associate Membership shall also cease on divorce or judicial separation which circumstances shall be notified by the Member to the General Manager and Secretary.

    An Associate Member who is widowed may continue to be an Associate Member, until his or her late spouse's membership expires, notwithstanding an application for Full Membership.
