Club Member Colin Bell Returns to the Skies in Texas

Monday 14th October 2019

Having not flown a Mosquito for 75 years, WW2 veteran Flt Lt Colin Bell DFC returned to the cockpit thanks to the generous offer of a flight in the Mosquito owned by Mr Rod Lewis of Lewis Air Legends in San Antonio Texas.

The visit was arranged by Flt Lt Penny Broadway from RAF Valley in collaboration with a small group of pilots and club members from American Airlines, to take place during their Sky Ball event in Dallas Texas which helps to raise millions of dollars for US military veterans.

Colin trained as a pilot in the USA under the Arnold Scheme pre- Pearl Harbour then stayed on as a cadet pilot instructor for the USAAC. Recalled to the UK in 1943 he flew Mosquitos with 608 Sqn from Downham  Market and completed 50 missions over Germany.
