Battle of Britain Dinner with Lord Piers Dowding
Thursday 18th September 2025
The Royal Air Force Club was proud to host a truly memorable Battle of Britain Dinner in this significant 85th anniversary year. The event, held on Friday 12th September, which had been fully booked for months, welcomed 105 attendees to the Club for an evening of reflection, fellowship, and fine dining.
Guests gathered for a Champagne reception before moving through to the stunning Sovereigns’ Room, where they enjoyed a superb three-course dinner with wines. The evening was hosted by Club Trustee Squadron Leader John Peters, whose warm welcome set the tone for a night filled with engaging conversation, delicious food, and excellent company.
We were especially honoured to welcome Lord Piers Dowding, grandson of Air Chief Marshal Lord Hugh Dowding, the Commander-in-Chief of RAF Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain. Lord Dowding delivered a captivating talk entitled “The Spirit of Stuffy Dowding”, sharing personal anecdotes, family reflections, and new perspectives on his grandfather’s remarkable leadership during 1940. His words provided both moving insight and a timely reminder of the enduring gratitude owed to The Few.
The photographs from the evening capture the spirit of the occasion perfectly — a combination of history, heritage, and camaraderie at the heart of the Club.
