The Running Horse Project – Update

Wednesday 16th July 2025

We are pleased to share that the Royal Air Force Club’s renovation of The Running Horse Tavern and its kitchens has reached the halfway mark and is progressing on schedule for completion in early September.

This project is far more than a superficial refurbishment. It is designed to significantly improve the overall experience for our Members and enhance the kitchen facilities for our staff. With thoughtful planning and investment, The Running Horse is being transformed into a lasting and integral part of the Club’s future. Special thanks to those Members who have already purchased a Tankard and supported the project to date.

During the early stages of the renovation, we uncovered a unique piece of the Club’s history, graffiti left behind during a 1970s renovation. The inscription reads:

"A.F. Shaw /Carpenter

Ex RAF Rear Gunner 10 Sqn

Worked here April 1972"

This remarkable discovery will be preserved and proudly displayed in a frame on the wall. We look forward to welcoming Members back to The Running Horse in September and will continue to keep you updated as the re-opening approaches.
