Last updated 18th June 2020: As a result of the latest Government recommendations, and until further notice, the Club remains open to support Key Workers across government departments, the emergency services and members involved in the ongoing efforts to eradicate coronavirus. We are offering accommodation and limited facilities and services only, operating with a minimum number of staff to support these efforts and to keep the Club safe and secure.

if you are a Key Worker, or know of someone who is and is seeking accommodation in London, the Club is offering bed and breakfast with the option of an evening meal at subsidised rates during this time. To enquire, please contact reservations@rafclub.org.uk or call 020 7399 1016.

Welcoming Members Back to the Club

As we know, Covid-19 has brought new challenges to how the hospitality industry operates. Following the latest Government recommendations regarding the safe 'restarting' of the UK's hospitality sector, the management and Board of Trustees are currently in the Planning Phases for a potential reopening of the RAF Club after the 4th July 2020.

The Club is keen to ensure our members feel comfortable, safe and secure to return when the time is right to do so. Please note, the Club is following all current government advice, operating 2m social distancing and ensuring levels of cleanliness and hygiene are exceptional with the following measures already in place:

    Reinforced cleaning protocols in public areas and bedrooms with frequent disinfection of all high touch areas

    Sanitisers provided in key public areas (front desk, elevators and all food & beverage areas) Wipes provided on request

    Social distancing enforced in all common areas as per government guidelines

    Introduction of plastic sneeze guards at main reception and the Dining room reception

    Reinforced food safety standards & new service procedures

    In Room Dining/Room Service option introduced

    Contactless check-in, check out and payments carried out whenever possible

    Removal of paper amenities (like pads and guest directories) in rooms

    Employees given comprehensive and ongoing safety & hygiene training

The Club Team
We continue to prioritise the welfare of the team, and when the crisis first hit, the Board of Trustees committed to ensuring the financial security and wellbeing of all 164 staff to the end of June. The Club is covered by the Government’s Job Retention initiative with up to 80% of salaries reimbursed, which is essential for the Club as a registered charity.
Over 130 staff have now entered a period of furlough, with those that are able, working from home. A small proportion of the team are also ‘living in’ at the Club to support their health and wellbeing, whilst fulfilling a 'hands on role'.

Operational Impact
Unsurprisingly revenues have fallen away over past months, with only a solitary income stream from our Key Worker accommodation remaining. The potential deferral of Business rates, VAT and PAYE will help ensure our financial stability at this uncertain time. Renovations and improvements such as the planned Lobby refurbishment have been postponed, with essential maintenance and repairs taking priority.

Your Support
The good wishes afforded to us by members has been remarkable, and we thank you for your loyalty at a time when you are unable to visit and support the Club in the usual ways, through dining, overnight stays, meetings, special occasions and social events. We hope members will take pride in the fact ‘their Club’ is doing its very best in the face of adversity.

Every single membership subscription helps us achieve this common goal, to do what we can to aid the national effort and keep the Club open for those most in need.
