Taking up the role in August 2025, Air Marshal Smyth will lead the Royal Air Force through a period of strategic transformation, following the publication of the UK’s Strategic Defence Review and a renewed focus on warfighting readiness.

A Harrier pilot with over 15 years of frontline operational flying experience, Air Marshal Smyth has served in multiple global theatres and held a range of senior command roles. He currently serves as Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff for Military Strategy and Operations.

His distinguished career and deep commitment to service make him exceptionally well placed to lead the RAF into its next chapter. We are honoured to count him among our Members and wish him every success in his new role
